At ESCATEC, collaboration across our global sites is one of our greatest strengths. Recently, several colleagues from our plant in Johor Bahru (JB), Malaysia, travelled to our Czech Republic facility (ECZ) for a temporary assignment.

The purpose of the trip was two-fold: to support knowledge sharing and skills transfer on a key product line, and to give our JB colleagues the opportunity to experience working in a new environment, with different teams, processes, and cultures.

For many, it was their first time working abroad. The experience has not only built confidence and broadened skills but also created lasting friendships and memories. Here, our colleagues share their journey in their own words.

    Taking the leap abroad

When the opportunity came, reactions ranged from surprise to excitement.

“I was very surprised because it was the first time I heard about it, let alone being given a 3-month chance.”Aliana Sara

For others, it was a chance to take on a challenge.

“It was a great opportunity to grow my skills and get new knowledge. I felt nervous but excited, especially since it was my first time getting a passport.”Natasha Anak Bungkong
“I always love challenges and wanted to see what other IBUs are manufacturing. I also wanted to learn about another culture.”Nurul Shafiqah

    The anticipation was real.

“I wasn’t nervous, just excited to work in a different environment and grow my professional experience.”Nur Mursahina

    Expectations vs reality

Before leaving JB, most expected some challenges in adapting to their new surroundings and different ways of working. But reality proved much more welcoming.

“I thought it might be difficult to adapt with such a huge cultural difference. Turns out it was so much better than I expected.”Theolene Elsie Jita
“I expected challenges, but the people were kind and guided me properly. The reality was even better than I imagined.”Aliana Sara
“I was expecting to make lots of new friends — and I did.”Nurul Shafiqah
“I thought the work would be similar to JB, but the units built in the Czech Republic are much larger and more complex.”Nur Mursahina

    Life and work at ECZ

One of the biggest takeaways for the group was experiencing life and work in a new cultural setting.

“I was expecting to make lots of new friends — and I did.”Nurul Shafiqah

It’s clear that the warmth of their Czech colleagues and the chance to immerse themselves in Czech culture has left a lasting impression.

    Learning and growth

The assignment was designed around product and process knowledge sharing, and each colleague took away new skills and insights.

“I never worked on big equipment before. Here I learned to use hand tools instead of machines.”Natasha Anak Bungkong
“I learned to use new tools and adapt to tasks that felt awkward at first but valuable later.”Aliana Sara

    Looking back with gratitude

The assignment achieved its goal of knowledge sharing and skill transfer — but for the participants, it meant so much more.

“This experience is something I can’t buy. I’ll miss my colleagues and hope for another opportunity like this.”Natasha Anak Bungkong

For ESCATEC, these stories show the value of working together across sites, building not only technical expertise but also lasting cultural connections. For our JB colleagues, it has clearly been an unforgettable journey of learning, growth, and teamwork. It’s also a testament to their ‘can do’ attitude and flexibility, something we pride ourselves on across the ESCATEC Group.
