Fever-Tree: Innovating beverage delivery for a more sustainable future

Fever-Tree is one of the world's leading suppliers of premium carbonated mixers and soft drinks, serving millions of consumers every year through its portfolio of high-quality drinks enjoyed in bars, restaurants, hotels and entertainment venues worldwide.

As consumer expectations evolved and hospitality operators looked for greater consistency, ease of service and operational efficiency, Fever-Tree saw an opportunity to rethink how its drinks could be delivered in selected venues. The objective was to create a dispensing solution that maintained the quality, taste and presentation associated with the brand while simplifying service for operators.

Sustainability and logistics considerations also formed part of the brief. By reducing reliance on bottled product in certain environments, the concept offered the potential to reduce packaging and transportation requirements alongside operational benefits.

Fever-Tree invested in the development of a dispensing platform designed to deliver a consistent, high-quality serve while supporting hospitality operators' evolving needs.

To help move the concept towards a production-ready manufacturing model, Fever-Tree worked with ESCATEC, whose role focused on industrialisation, manufacturing engineering, supply chain coordination and production readiness.

The Challenge

For a global beverage producer, growth brings both opportunity and complexity.

Every bottle shipped to a bar, restaurant or other venue must be manufactured, filled, labelled, transported, stored and eventually recycled or disposed of. Across thousands of locations, this creates a substantial logistical and environmental footprint.

Fever-Tree recognised an opportunity to develop a dispensing solution that could deliver the same quality and consistency customers expect from the brand, while making service and replenishment simpler for operators.

The company envisioned a dispensing platform designed to reduce reliance on single-serve packaging in some environments while maintaining the premium quality standards that have become synonymous with the Fever-Tree brand.

However, developing such a solution was far from straightforward.

The system needed to:

  • Deliver the same flavour profile and quality consumers expect from bottled products

  • Maintain precise carbonation levels and drink consistency

  • Reduce transportation and packaging requirements

  • Simplify storage and replenishment for hospitality operators

  • Support Fever-Tree's sustainability objectives

  • Create a premium visual presence that reflected the brand's identity

  • Be scalable for wider roll-out

Extensive research and development had already gone into creating a dispensing technology capable of accurately replicating Fever-Tree beverages. The next challenge was transforming that concept into a manufacturable product that could be produced consistently, efficiently and at scale.

That is where ESCATEC came in.

What made ESCATEC particularly well suited to the project was its combination of electronic and mechanical engineering expertise. In addition to intelligent electronics and wireless connectivity, the dispensing platform incorporated critical motors, pumps and pneumatic systems that are essential to its performance. By bringing together experience across these disciplines, ESCATEC was able to support the industrialisation of the complete solution, a capability not commonly found among traditional UK EMS providers.

The Solution

Working closely with Fever-Tree and the original design team, ESCATEC helped industrialise the dispensing platform and prepare it for commercial production.

Drawing on expertise from both its Swiss and UK engineering teams, ESCATEC supported the project through:

  • Product industrialisation

  • Design for Manufacture (DfM)

  • Design for Test (DfT)

  • Material selection and validation

  • Injection moulding optimisation

  • Supply chain development and consolidation

  • Manufacturing process development

  • Production readiness planning

One of the most technically demanding aspects of the project involved the system's fluid management technology. Critical components required exceptionally tight manufacturing tolerances to ensure every drink was dispensed with the correct mix of ingredients, carbonation and consistency.

ESCATEC's engineering teams worked extensively on component optimisation, material selection and manufacturing processes to achieve the required performance while supporting efficient production.

The project also presented significant aesthetic challenges.

As a highly recognisable consumer brand, Fever-Tree wanted the dispensing unit to reflect the premium quality associated with its products. ESCATEC collaborated with specialist suppliers to develop sophisticated finishes that replicated the appearance of antique copper while remaining suitable for scalable production.

At the same time, the supply chain was streamlined and optimised to support future growth. Multiple manufacturing processes and specialist suppliers were coordinated and consolidated into a production model capable of supporting increasing demand while maintaining quality standards.

The final solution combines advanced dispensing technology, intelligent electronics, wireless connectivity and premium industrial design into a platform that is both visually distinctive and operationally efficient.

The Results

The completed dispensing platform has enabled Fever-Tree to introduce a new and more sustainable way of serving beverages globally.

Key benefits include:

  • Significant reduction in bottle transportation requirements

  • Lower packaging consumption and waste

  • Reduced logistics complexity for venues

  • Compact ingredient cartridges capable of delivering approximately 80 servings each

  • Consistent beverage quality and serving performance

  • Enhanced customer experience at the point of dispense

  • A scalable platform ready for wider market deployment

Fever-Tree has demonstrated that sustainability and customer experience do not have to be competing priorities. By rethinking how beverages are delivered and served, the company has created an innovative platform that supports operational efficiency while preserving the quality and experience customers expect.

For ESCATEC, the project highlights the value of combining engineering expertise, industrialisation capabilities and manufacturing know-how to help ambitious companies bring transformative ideas to market.

Together, Fever-Tree and ESCATEC have shown how innovation can reshape a traditional industry and create new opportunities for sustainable growth.
